1. Check your documents before you arrive
It sounds obvious, and yet it's the number one reason rentals fall through at the last minute. Before you travel, make sure you have your original driving licence — not a photocopy — a valid ID and proof of address less than 3 months old.
At MD Location, the minimum required age is 21, with a licence held for at least 2 years. A probationary licence will not be accepted for sports vehicles.
2. Understand the insurance included
Insurance is one of the most misunderstood parts of renting. At MD Location, fully comprehensive insurance is included in every rate — no extra charge, no surprises. But it's always worth knowing exactly what it covers.
Fully comprehensive insurance covers material damage caused to third parties, damage to the rented vehicle, theft and fire. What's not covered: personal belongings left in the vehicle, damage resulting from improper use, or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
3. Inspect the vehicle at pick-up
This is the step too many renters skip, eager to hit the road. Yet it's the most important one. Before signing the key handover form, walk all the way around the vehicle with an agent and report any visible defect — however minor — so it gets noted on the initial condition report.
Scratches, dents, windscreen chips, worn tyres, cracked headlights: every existing issue must be documented. Without a joint condition report, any damage found at return could be attributed to you.
What to check
4. Know your mileage allowance
This is a detail many people forget to check. At MD Location, every rental includes 200 km per day. That's enough for most uses — a day in the Vosges, a Mulhouse–Strasbourg round trip, a drive along the Wine Route.
However, if you're planning a longer trip — Paris, Lyon, a road trip across Europe — plan ahead and choose the unlimited mileage option available at booking. You'll avoid the extra mileage fees that can quickly add up on a long journey.
5. Read the cancellation terms
Life is full of surprises. Before booking, take the time to read the cancellation terms. At MD Location, you can cancel free of charge up to 72 hours before the vehicle pick-up date. The 20% deposit paid at booking is fully refunded within this window.
After this 72-hour window, the deposit is no longer refunded. The vehicle was reserved, turning away other renters. If you're unsure about your availability, get in touch with us — we review every situation on a case-by-case basis.
These 5 checks take no more than ten minutes. In return, they save you hours of stress, unexpected fees and needless disputes. At MD Location, our mission is to make every rental as simple and transparent as possible — all-inclusive pricing, insurance included, careful condition reports.
